Welcome to today's chat. Today we'll be talking with Mirror news editor Shawn Linenberger about the new design of the newspaper.

Shawn Linenberger

Welcome to all our readers. I hope to hear from you regarding questions about The Mirror's new size and design, which kicked off with Wednesday's edition.

During this chat, readers are welcome to submit questions for Shawn.

While we're waiting for readers' questions, Shawn, could you tell us about the size of the newspaper changing?

Shawn Linenberger

Certainly. The more compact design is intended to be easier for readers to handle and navigate. The smaller page format also offers some cost-savings in the way of production.

Moderator

Will any features be changing with the new tabloid-sized newspaper?

Shawn Linenberger

We do have several new features, including the seven-day weather outlook, a photo package each week that captures events in our community called "Our Town," as well as 5 questions, which focuses on topics in the news.
Readers also should look for the Neighbors feature, which accompanies Our Town. Neighbors is similar to the Know Your Neighbor feature that ran periodically in The Mirror. It's a way of connecting to folks in our community to find out a little more about the people we see on the street.

We're still taking questions from our readers for today's chat. In the meantime, Shawn, it appears as though the paper has fewer stories in it. Is that the case?

Shawn Linenberger

Not necessarily. Surveys have shown that our readers prefer shorter stories. Thus, we've tried to cut back on the length of our stories. That being said, we plan to have approximately the same number of stories from week to week.

Moderator

Shawn, it appears that's all the time we have for today's chat.
Thank you for joining in today's discussion.
