County represented at Farm Bureau meeting

By Staff | Dec 1, 1999

Ed Eberth, Basehor, Ruth Ryan, Leavenworth, and John Wise, Linwood, represented Leavenworth County as delegates at Kansas Farm Bureau’s 81 St annual meeting Nov. 19-21 in Wichita.

They were among more than 1,000 farmers and ranchers from the state that attended the conference. Delegates from all 105 counties conducted business in setting farm policy for the upcoming year.

Kansas Farm Bureau President Steve Baccus addressed the delegates at the beginning of the annual meeting.

“We have enjoyed unparalleled success, when it comes to producing crops and livestock,” says Baccus. “Farmers and ranchers in Kansas, Farm Bureau members seated in this hall today, and many of your neighbors are the most prolific producers anywhere in the world. We grow the safest, least expensive, most abundant food in the world.”

U.S. Senator Sam Brownback participated in an open forum with delegates.

Some topics discussed by delegates at the meeting included water-resource issues, proactive measures to control wildlife damage, agricultural product utilization and statewide environmental legislation.

The Recognition and Awards Banquet Saturday night honored Farm Bureau leaders.
