Soccer team to play three games at home

By Matt Friedrichs - | Oct 13, 1999

Dave Gepner, Tonganoxie goalkeeper is out, he’s in, he’s out.
How important is a good goalkeeper? Ask Harold Pittman, Tonganoxie soccer coach.

Without Gepner grabbing, punching and keeping shots out of the goal anyway he could, the Chieftains lost to DeSoto last week.
Gepner was sitting out for disciplinary reasons and Matt Tait, who splits time with Josh Lowe as junior varsity goalie, was in goal.

“The kids knew that he (Gepner) wasn’t back there, and that affected their play,” Pittman said.

The result: a 6-0 loss.

With Gepner back against Immaculata, the Chieftains played much better.
Dustin Schultz headed in a Rodney Lobb corner kick.

“He snuck it in right next to the near post,” Pittman said.
Unfortunately for the Chieftains, Gepner received a red card later in the game for rough play during an Immaculata corner kick.
So, he didn’t play last night against Piper.

The absence or presence of Gepner notwithstanding, Pittman said the Chieftains played better in their game against Immaculata.

They’ll try to take that success into three consecutive home games this week.
