Citizens opens office; Mutual moves manager

By Caroline Trowbridge - | Apr 5, 2000

Citizens Savings and Loan Association this week opened a loan office in Tonganoxie.

And at the beginning of May, Mutual Savings Association will have a new Tonganoxie branch manager.

Nancy McDougal, who until several weeks ago was branch manager at Tonganoxie’s Mutual Savings Association, is loan officer at the new Citizens Savings and Loan office, 507 E. Fourth.

“This is a full loan production office,” McDougal said. “Any loan product that Citizens offers, we’ll be offering through here.”

Ron Romig, president of Citizens Savings and Loan, said the association had been considering a foray into the growing Tonganoxie market.

“We’ve had a presence in the south part of the county since 1975,” he said, “and we saw this as an opportunity to expand to another growing area.”

Romig said the association, which is Kansas’ oldest, has not decided whether to convert the Tonganoxie office into a full-service branch.

“We’re really glad to have Nancy on board with us and think she’ll do a great job for us,” Romig said. “We’re glad to have the presence there.”

Citizens Savings has four full-service branches: two in Leavenworth, one in Basehor and one in Sabetha.

McDougal’s career in the world of finance began seven years ago at Mutual, where as of May 1 Frances Caenen will become branch manager. Kathy Smith has served as acting branch manager since McDougal’s departure from Mutual.

For Caenen, who lives just outside of Tonganoxie, working in Tonganoxie is a dream come true.

“I’m certainly happy to finally be five minutes from the office,” she said. ” I have timed it.”

Presently, Caenen is manager of Mutual’s Bonner Springs branch. Before she opened that office in December 1997, she worked for about 29 years in the company’s Leavenworth office.

“She’s a neat lady,” said David Hoppes, president and chief executive officer of Mutual Savings Association. “She’s worked for us for over 30 years. She started out as a secretary in the home office and just has done a tremendous job. Her skills and responsibility have grown steadily over the years. She’s one of our most experienced and knowledgeable loan officers and managers. We’re extremely excited about her coming to the Tonganoxie branch.”
