Salvation Army sets distribution date
The Salvation Army will distribute commodities from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Village, 711 Pleasant.

People who have not received commodities this year are required to bring a picture identification, proof of residency and proof of income. People who have received commodities this year will be required to show a picture identification. Participants also are asked to bring boxes or bags to this distribution.

This will be the last distribution this year.

Veterans commission available to help
A representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans' Affairs on Sept. 14 will be available in three area towns to help veterans and dependents with service work.

The representative will be in Atchison at 9 a.m. at the Atchison Senior Center, 504 Kansas Ave.; in Leavenworth at 1 p.m. at the Job Service Office, 600 S. Fifth; and in Oskaloosa at 3 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

Tiblow Days festival set this weekend
The annual Tiblow Days celebration is slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Bonner Springs.

The celebration is sponsored by the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce and will feature a variety of free events and activities. Among highlights of the annual event is a parade at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Basehor historical group sets meeting

The Basehor Historical Society's next meeting will be at 9 a.m. Saturday First State Bank and Trust in Basehor.

Lorie Sines of Linwood will present a talk on artifacts that she has collected from the Leavenworth area. She will have many items, including tools and arrow points. She also will answer audience members' questions.

A short meeting will follow.

Recycling available Saturday morning
The next SORT recycling drop-off will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the east entrance of Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. The youth of West Haven Baptist Church collect recyclables at this drop-off. The next SORT recycling will be Sept. 9.

Lawrence Masons sponsoring circus

The Masons of Lawrence Lodge No. 6 is sponsoring the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus on Sept. 2 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Shows will be at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
