By Lisa Stevens John - | Aug 30, 2000

It taken seven years, $30,000, and numerous trips across the country for original parts.

And Paul Crabtree still dreams of the day he can rev up his engine and drive his 1957 Chevy convertible out of the shop. He hoping that will happen in time for Tonganoxie Days 2001.

Until then, Crabtree is content to talk shop with other car enthusiasts, many of whom will be at the parking lot of the former Bitler restaurant from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday.

Crabtree has plenty of company when it comes to car talk. He expecting that at least 30 owners of restored older cars will bring their vehicles to the Country Cruisers car club first show and shine.

In fact, anyone interested in old cars is welcome to attend the free, walk-through show, complete with live music.

To feed the anticipated crowd, Daniel Hipsher, owner of Daniel Barbecue, will set up a concession stand in the parking lot of Bitler, and the Ice Cream Shop will stay open a little later that evening to serve refreshments. Hipsher said members of Country Cruisers recently remodeled the basement room of his restaurant into a meeting room.

Anyone with an interest in old cars is welcome to attend a Country Cruisers meeting at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month in the basement of Daniel Barbecue.

ou don have to have an old car,Crabtree said. ou just have to have an interest in the preservation of old cars.
The next event the club is planning is a swap meet, slated for Oct. 14-15 at the Leavenworth County Fair-grounds.
