SORT Recycling set for Saturday morning
The next SORT Recycling drop-off is set from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. Members of Boy Scout Cub Pack No. 3075 will help at the drop-off to collect recyclables. This is the only recycling date in December. The next one is Jan. 13.
Radiologist plans talk with support group
The Leavenworth County American Cancer Society-sponsored Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Monday at the Tonganoxie Public Library, 305 S. Bury.
Doug Mathis, a radiologist based at Munson Health Center at Fort Leavenworth, will explain mammograms and answer questions from those attending the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
Veterans` Affairs offering assistance
A representative from the Kansas Commission on Veterans` Affairs on Dec. 14 will be available in three area towns to help veterans and dependents with service work.
The representative will be in Atchison at 9 a.m. at the Atchison Senior Center, 504 Kansas Ave.; in Leavenworth at 1 p.m. at the Job Service Office, 600 S. Fifth; and in Oskaloosa at 3 p.m. at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

Library open house includes Santa visit
The Linwood Community Library will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Refreshments will be served, and Santa Claus will arrive at 11 a.m. to have his picture taken. The Sherman Township Fire Department will deliver Santa to the library.
Annual homes tour set for Sunday
The Leavenworth Vintage Homes Society is preparing for its annual Candlelight Homes Tour, which is scheduled for Sunday. The tour, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., will feature 10 vintage homes and will benefit Carroll Mansion, home of the Leavenworth County Historical Society. Tickets are available at Carroll Mansion, Country Cupboard, Ginny`s Antiques, PA Kelleys and Sally`s Choices.
