Council OKs rate increases
After the first of the year, fees for trash, water and sewer will increase in Tonganoxie.
Monday night, city council members approved higher rates that would mean an average increase of $2 to $3 on residential customers' monthly bills.
"In my opinion, $2 to $3 is a reasonable amount," said city administrator Chris Clark.
The increase would be included on bills customers receive in January.
Council members unanimously approved four ordinances that:
Increased the amount charged for residential trash service from $6.92 to $7.50 for curbside service and from $7.92 to $8.50 for houseside service.
Increased from $5 to $6.25 the surcharge for water fund debt service.
Increased water rates. The base rate charged for use ranging from 1 gallon to 1,000 gallons will remain at $5.65. The cost for every 1,000 gallons above that will increase from $3.35 to $3.60.
Increased sewer fees. The base rate charged for use up to 1,000 gallons of water used, the sewer charge will remain at $6.76. For every 1,000 gallons above that, the rate will change from $2.35 to $2.70.
