Graveside services for Arnold George Torneden, 95, Baldwin, were June 23, 2000, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.

Mr. Torneden died June 20, 2000, at Baldwin Care Center, Baldwin. He was born May 31, 1905, in Linwood, the son of Fredrick George Torneden and Caroline (Kampschroeder) Torneden.

He was an active community leader in Reno, Tonganoxie and Baldwin. Among his many activities: school board member in Villa Eden and Reno; 4-H leader and superintendent of swine division, county fair; FHA; committee member of ASC for Leavenworth County; trustee and administrator of Reno Methodist Church; Meals on Wheels; president of Southern Leavenworth County Council on Aging; building committee for the Riford Senior Center in Tonganoxie; and the Now or Never seniors club in Baldwin.

Survivors include his wife, Madge French Torneden; a son, Arnold Duane Torneden, Titusville, Fla.; a daughter, Rettalou Massey, Baldwin; a sister, Lillian Gantz, Lawrence; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
