Kelly Carreno, 22, who was injured in an explosion at a house in northern Leavenworth County on June 21, was released Monday from the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. Her husband, Jason Carreno, 22, remains at the medical center, where he was listed in serious condition Tuesday morning.
A 33-year-old McLouth man was released June 30 from Kansas University Medical Center. Timothy Hoffsett suffered facial injuries in a June 16 vehicle accident west of Tonganoxie.
Three properties in the Eagle Valley Subdivision located on 12th Street Terrace sustained $340 of criminal damage between Saturday night and Monday morning. At 498 12th Street Terrace, a screen on a window was cut. At 496 12th Street Terrace, someone filled the clean-out pipe outside the house full of dirt. A plumber will have to be called to clear it out. At 494 12th Street Terrace, shrubs were dug up or pulled out. All of these properties are under construction and belong to Jim Christian, Lawrence. His properties have been targets of previous acts of vandalism.
Leavenworth County sheriff
A vehicle driven by Susan Butler, 22, Atchison, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 73 when a vehicle driven by William Heim, 79, Leavenworth, pulled out from a stop sign on County Road 14 at 8:10 a.m. last Wednesday. There were no injuries. Heim's vehicle received more than $500 damage and Butler's more than $500, sheriff's reports said.
A vehicle driven by Travis Alexander, 19, Tonganoxie, was traveling south on 198th Street near County Road 6 about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a deer ran out in the road. Alexander swerved his vehicle to miss hitting the deer, went into the ditch and overturned. The vehicle received more than $500 damage, sheriff's reports said.
A vehicle driven by Adam Subelka, 21, McLouth, was traveling north on County Road 1 when he hit a deer about 12:20 a.m. July 4. Subelka's vehicle received more than $500 damage, sheriff's reports said.
A vehicle driven by Jeffrey Piche, 25, Leavenworth, crossed left of center on Kansas Highway 5 and hit a vehicle driven by Mary Bruch, 52, Kansas City, Kan., head on at 3:45 p.m. July 3. Bruch was taken to St. John Hospital, Leavenworth, where she was treated and released.
Two 17-year-old Linwood youths were questioned early Sunday in connection with the theft of about $8,500 worth of power tools and other equipment in Basehor.
According to the Leavenworth County sheriff's department, a deputy stopped a truck at 155th and Chestnut in Basehor about 4:30 a.m. after the truck ran a stop sign. In the bed of the truck, the officer found power tools and other equipment that apparently had been stolen from Miles Excavating, and at least three Basehor homes. The thefts occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 4:15 a.m., reports said.
The youths were questioned and released. Sheriff's reports will be forwarded to the county attorney's office to determine whether to file charges.
