Services for James Hart Todd, 83, Kansas City, Kan., were Monday, July 24, 2000, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, with the Rev. Ben Saathoff officiating. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Todd died last Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Providence Place, Kansas City, Kan. He was born Feb. 13, 1917, in Dallas, the son of James W. and Frances L. (Hart) Todd.
He married Lora Faye Stevens on July 9, 1940. She died on Jan. 1, 1997.
He retired in 1980 after forecasting the weather for TWA flight crews for 37 years as a manager-meteorologist. In 1970, the entire meteorology department was transferred from Kansas City Municipal Airport to JFK International Airport, New York City, so the family moved from Tonganoxie to Bayside, Queens, N.Y.
Mr. Todd was a member of the American Meteorological Society and was one of the developers of the pressure pattern flying over the North Atlantic. This evolved into flight planning along the minimum time route. He also won recognition for his research in to the technological requirement of the advanced computerized command weather information system and its application.
Survivors include a son, James R. Todd, Fayette, Mo.; two daughters, Frances Boone, Converse, Texas, and Rita Hardy, Tonganoxie; a brother, Robert E. Todd, Lewisville, Texas; two sisters, Mary Ellen Natjek and Patsy Lucille Witmer, both of Lewisville, Texas; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Tonganoxie Christian Church's Rise and Build fund.
