Basketball teams deserve recognition

March 8, 2000

Although neither of Tonganoxie High School's varsity basketball teams advanced to the state tournament, members of the teams should be congratulated for their achievements during the 2000 season.

The boys team finished with a 10-11 overall win-loss record. The squad, coached by Mike Webb, took second at the annual Tonganoxie Tournament, grabbed fourth in Kaw Valley League play and took fourth at the DeSoto Tournament.

The team included three seniors, who will be missed next year.

The girls team, coached by John Lee, completed the season with a 12-10 record. This team, which played aggressive defense all season, placed fifth at the Gardner-Edgerton Tournament and Fifth at the DeSoto Tournament. It won its first round game at substate before losing to Piper.

Its seven senior players added a lot of heart and soul to the team.

Congratulations to all of the student-athletes who wore a basketball uniform this year for the Chieftains. And best wishes for the 2001 season.
