Wilma June Rawlings
1928-2000

Graveside services for Wilma Jean Rawlings, 72, Tonganoxie, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie, with the Rev. Roger Ambrose officiating.

Mrs. Rawlings died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Colonial Manor in Lawrence. She was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Tonganoxie, the daughter of Herbert Arthur and Hilda Marie (Younger) Rawlings. She was a member of the Tonganoxie Friends Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Karla June Hoye, Billings, Mont.; a sister, Lorene Durbin, Overland Park; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Clarence R. “Ike” Sparks
1924-2000

Services for Clarence R. “Ike” Sparks, 75, rural McLouth, were Saturday at McLouth United Methodist Church. Private family burial was in McLouth Cemetery.

Mr. Sparks died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at his home. He was born Oct. 18, 1924, at Leavenworth, the son of Ray and Viola Hassett Hall Sparks. He had lived in rural McLouth since 1948, moving to the area from Leavenworth.

He was a farmer most of his life. He also worked as a machine operator at Meyer Dairy in Basehor for 21 years before his retirement.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and served from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church, the Williams-Kesinger American Legion Post No. 393, McLouth, and the Teamster’s Union Local No. 207, Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from Jarbalo High School in 1943. He married Evelyn “Maxine” Mason on June 14, 1943, at Platte City, Mo. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Gregg Sparks, Tonganoxie; two daughters, Jane McCreery, Kansas City, Mo., and Judy Schwinn, McLouth; two half-brothers, Denny Hassett, El Dorado, and Randy Sparks, Mokelumne, Calif.; two half-sister,s Naomi Allen, Enumcla, Wash., and Patty Armstrong, Tonganoxie; and eight grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the scholarship fund of the McLouth United Methodist Church, sent in care of the church or Barnett Funeral Home, 820 Liberty, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.

Elizabeth A. Stubler
1939-2000

Services for Elizabeth A. Stubler, 60, Basehor, were Saturday at Quisenberry Chapel, Tonganoxie. Cremation was planned, with private inurnment.

Mrs. Stubler died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Odessa, Mo., the daughter of Clyde and Martha Baker Clark. She moved in 1972 to Basehor from Kansas City, Kan. She was a member of the Basehor United Methodist Church. On July 5, 1958, she married William Stubler in Kansas City, Kan. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Dr. Daniel K. Stubler, Daphine, Ala., and Keith B. Stubler, Basehor; and her mother, Martha Clark, Tonganoxie.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, 66086.

Kathleen “Dolly” Dempsey
1929-2000

Services for Kathleen “Dolly” (Gillespie) Dempsey, 70, Tonganoxie, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 703 River, Tonganoxie. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo., with the Rev. Mark Goldasich officiating.

Mrs. Dempsey was born March 11, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Horace E. and Kathleen (McVeigh) Gillespie. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She graduated from Lillis High School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1947. She was a homemaker and had worked at First National Bank of Kansas City, Mo., for 24 years. She married John Dempsey on Oct. 17, 1964, in Kansas City, Kan. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two brothers, Jim Gillespie, Leavenworth, and Larry Gillespie, Bryan, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Quisenberry Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 6 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, sent in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie 66086.

Nathan Castle
1983-2000

Services for Nathan Allen Castle, 17, Tonganoxie, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at West Haven Baptist, Church, 1000 West Street, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan.

He died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, near his home. He was born Jan. 29, 1983, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Curtis and Brenda (Lynch) Castle. He was a junior at Tonganoxie High School and a member of the school art club and West Haven Baptist Church, Tonganoxie.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Curtis and Karin Castle, Kansas City, Kan.; his mother and stepfather, Brenda and Larry Herd, Tonganoxie; one brother, Darrel Herd, Hiawatha; one sister, Krystin Castle, Kansas City, Kan.; his maternal grandfather, Donald Lynch, Marion County, Ark.; and his maternal great-grandmother, Rose Collins, Theodosia, Mo.

His paternal grandparents, Russell and Mary Lou Castle; his maternal grandmother, Barbara Lynch; and his maternal great-grandfather, Floyd Allen Key, preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the church, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the art club at Tonganoxie High School.
