Local volunteers’ stitch project for St. Vincent

By Staff | May 3, 2000

Through the leadership of Janet Ambrose, Tonganoxie, volunteers throughout the city and businesses made the Christmas Stocking project a huge success. Although their project occurred last fall, their contributions more than 900 stockings are certainly noteworthy enough to remember during April, which was National Volunteer Month.

“Their efforts are a prime example of volunteerism,” said Sister Barbara Scrader, development director at St. Vincent Clinic. “We certainly hope that they will decide to do this project gain next year. The stockings brought about many smiles on the faces of children of patients or children who are patients at Saint Vincent Clinic. Volunteers are invaluable to the mission of the clinic whether they are sewing stockings, volunteering as a physician, nurse or clerical personnel. We recognize their worth not only in this month, but also throughout the year. Thank you for giving of your time and talent.”

Some of the other volunteers included the Reno Bobwhite 4-H, Friendship Valley Get Together Club, RLDS, United Methodist Church, Assembly of God, Happy Helpers 4-H, Stanwood Friends Church, First State Bank, Tonganoxie Friends Meeting; Pentecostal Church, Genesis Christian Academy, Congregational Church, Assembly of God Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gideons International of Leavenworth, Kuntry Klub EHU, Good Shepherd Thrift Shop, Hancock Fabrics. Area groups also provided personal hygiene items and small toys to put in the stockings.
