Musicians’ fund-raiser concludes May 12
Only nine days remain in the Tonganoxie High School music department's fund-raiser that entails the sale of newspaper subscriptions.
The special fund-raiser in conjunction with The Mirror and the Lawrence Journal-World will conclude on May 12.
Members of the THS band and choir are selling newspaper subscriptions and renewals in the area as a way to raise money for upcoming activities. About 160 students are involved in the fund-raising effort.
Each member of the THS band and choir has been authorized to sell newspaper subscriptions to The Mirror and the Lawrence Journal-World.
In return, the newspapers will make a donation to the students for each subscription sold.
The Mirror will donate to students $5 from each annual subscription that students sell. A 52-week subscription to The Mirror costs $25 in Leavenworth, Jefferson, Douglas, Wyandotte and Johnson counties; $30 a year elsewhere in Kansas; and $35 a year outside of Kansas.
The offer applies to both new subscriptions and renewals.
The Journal-World has agreed to donate $10 for each 14-week subscription, which costs customers $34.50.
All band and choir students who are in eighth grade through 12th grade are participating in the special fund-raiser.
The Marching Chieftains are raising funds for a trip in late December to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Each member of the band has been asked to contribute $380 toward the cost of the trip. In addition, vocal music students are raising funds for upcoming activities.
Donna Mages, a member of the advisory board to the THS music department's VIP Booster Club, collects money from students once a week. She also is tallying how much each student raises. For additional information about this special offer, call The Mirror, (913) 845-2222, or drop by the newspaper offices, 520 E. Fourth, in Tonganoxie.
