Softball team loses to Santa Fe Trail, Piper

By Staff | May 3, 2000

The Tonganoxie High School softball team lost twice to Santa Fe Trail last week.

The Chieftains managed only four hits in a 12-1 loss to Santa Fe Trail. Laura Samuels allowed 19 hits and eight earned runs while walking one batter and striking out six batters.

The Chieftains had six hits and no runs in a 1-0 loss to Santa Fe Trail. Sammy Schiltz held the Chargers to six hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out none.

Despite letting the first game get out of hand, the team rebounded in the second game. Mall said the team had a chance to tie the game in the seventh. A hit could have driven in one or more of the runners on first and second.

Tonganoxie played second-place Basehor-Linwood yesterday. The Chieftains play league-leading DeSoto later this week.

Mall said the team would then have a week to prepare for regionals at Eudora.
