Alums returning Saturday to THS

By Caroline Trowbridge - | May 10, 2000

This weekend, nearly 300 alumni of Tonganoxie High School are expected to attend the annual Alumni Banquet.

The activities, hosted by the Class of 1975, begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the gymnasium of Tonganoxie High School. This year, the banquet will celebrate 100 years of education. The Class of 2000 will be the 100th to graduate from THS.

Among the events Saturday night is a dinner catered by Bum Steer. Members of the Classes of 1950 and 1975 will be honored.

“Also, during the alumni banquet, we introduce the class of 2000 as members of the alumni association,” said David Van Dyke, one of the organizers of the event. “We’d like to seem all of them there. They’re all invited.”

The recipients of two $500 college scholarships will be announced during the event, as well.

This year, commemorative coffee mugs will be available, Van Dyke said.

“We’re also going to be taking pictures the night of the banquet, using a digital camera, and we’ll print those out right there,” said Mike Orr, president of the Class of 1975 who is heading the organizing committee for the banquet.

Tickets for the banquet are available in advance for $12.50 at The Mirror, B&J Apple Market, First State Bank and Trust, Mutual Savings, Community National Bank, Evans Real Estate and Tonganoxie High School. Tickets at the door are $15.

After the banquet about 9 p.m. a party will be thrown at Shoemaker Auction Center. A $5 cover charge will be collected at the door.
