Water board recount doesn’t affect results

A recount last Wednesday of votes for the Lan-Del Water Board did not affect the outcome of the Nov. 7 election.

According to Linda Scheer, county clerk, Tammy Russell and Allen Johnson were elected to the board. Voters in the water district were to vote for two candidates in a four-way race.

Phillip Chiles, who came in third, was only four votes behind Johnson in the count of the Nov. 7 ballots. So Leavenworth County commissioners ordered a recount of votes. The new count was conducted on Wednesday at the courthouse.

“The votes changed, but the outcome stayed the same,” Scheer said.
