Local postal worker earns promotion

By Amy Train - | Oct 25, 2000

The Tonganoxie Post Office soon will lose a familiar face.

Dan Fire, window distribution clerk, has been named postmaster in Effingham. Fire was chosen from among 12 applicants.

“It`s been a long process,” Fire said. “The position came up for bid in May.”

Fire has purchased a house in Effingham and is working to familiarize himself with the community. One of the perks is that Effingham is a wrestling town. Fire, who has helped with Tonganoxie`s wrestling club, already has been asked to help out in Effingham.

Fire, who has worked for the postal service for 16 years, is eager to start his new position.

“This was my goal,” Fire said. “I am really excited.”

Despite his eagerness, Fire said he would miss the people in Tonganoxie. He will also miss working in the office.

“There has been really great harmony in this office, like one big happy family,” Fire said. “Everyone here understands about me leaving and there is no animosity.”

Fire will step into his new position as soon as his current position in Tonganoxie is filled.
