Tonganoxie chamber sets lunch meeting
The Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Thursday in the lower level of Mutual Savings Association, Fourth and Green streets. Tonganoxie City Administrator Chris Clark will be the featured speaker. Lunch will be ordered. Participants are asked to bring a $4 donation and to call the chamber office, 845-9244, for reservations.

School participating in recycling effort
Genesis Schools, Tonganoxie, has joined an effort to recycle laser and ink jet cartridges, called Rethink Ink Recycling.

Parents, community members, churches, civic groups and businesses are encouraged to donate empty laser and ink jet cartridges to the school. For all ink and laser jet cartridges the school collects, it will receive money and newspaper in education programs from the Kansas City Star’s Star in Education department.

Leadership program seeks participants
The board of directors of the Southern Leavenworth County Leadership Development program has completed the schedule for 2000-2001 classes. Classes will be the third Wednesday of each month beginning Sept. 20.

The purpose of the program is to develop future community leaders through the guidance of present leadership and the assistance of state and county resources. All citizens who live or work in Leavenworth County, including high school juniors and seniors, are eligible for the program. To participate, call Larry Shepek, 369-6600, Chuck Wilderson, 724-1057, the Basehor Chamber of Commerce, 724-9000, or the Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce, 845-9244.

Applications are available at First State Bank and Trust offices in Basehor and Tonganoxie, Citizens Savings and Loan Association in Basehor, Basehor City Hall, Tonganoxie City Hall or at the libraries in Linwood, Basehor and Tonganoxie.

Church to dedicate new food stand
Tonganoxie’s United Methodist church will hold a special dedication worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church’s new food stand at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. A fellowship dinner, served by the youth group, will follow. Donations for the meal will be accepted. The 8:30 a.m. worship service will be held in the chapel as usual.

Leavenworth festival begins Thursday
Leavenworth’s annual River Fest is set for Thursday through Sunday in downtown Leavenworth. The event will feature entertainment, food, demonstrations and craft and commercial vendors.
