Tonganoxie Parents as Teachers to meet
The Tonganoxie Parents as Teachers play group for children aged birth to 3-years-old, will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Tonganoxie Public Library. Children participate in developmental activities, such as painting, building and imaginary play.

S.O.R.T. to have drop off this weekend
The next S.O.R.T. recycling drop-off will be Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Members of the Tonganoxie High School Science Club will be at this drop-off to collect recyclable items.

The next S.O.R.T. drop-off will be Oct. 14.

Germanfest to offer traditional celebrating
A taste of Germany will arrive Sept. 23, at St. Joseph of the Valley Church, rural Leavenworth, when the Church hosts its seventeenth annual Germanfest celebration.

A German dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The menu will include Bavarian roast beef, bratwurst and sauerkraut, German potato salad, German breads, assorted strudels, German chocolate cake and other trimmings. Our traditional Polka Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. by Father Kyle Haden. The Mass will include readings in both English and German.

Starting at 6 p.m., games will be available for children of all ages. Beginning at 7 p.m., those attending will enjoy dancing to the music of the Ed Grisnik Band. At 9 p.m., a raffle drawing will be held and the lucky winners may be able to win cash prizes and other gifts.

Tickets are available at the door or may be purchased by calling (913) 682-3212. Ticket prices are: $7 (adult dinner only); $4 (adult dance only); $10 (adult dinner and dance); $3 (children 12 and under). Advance ticket purchases are appreciated.

The Germanfest planning committee encourages those attending to wear traditional German attire in order to add to the festivities.

St. Joseph of the Valley Church is located on Country Road 17 in rural Leavenworth. From Leavenworth, the church may be reached by going north on Highway 73 approximately eight miles to Highway 192, then going west on Highway 192 to County Road 17. Go south on County Road 17 approximately two miles. The Church is located on the right side of the road.

‘Moms in Touch’ begins meetings
Mothers of children in the USD 458 Basehor-Linwood school district are invited to learn about Moms In Touch. This group has chapters all across the nation, and is designed to gather people together to pray specifically for their schools, their children and their teachers.

The first meeting of the year will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 26, at the First State Bank on 155th street in Basehor. Moms In Touch will meet one hour, one day each week, while children are in school.
