Nursing center starts caregivers’ group
Tonganoxie Nursing Center is starting a new, free care givers support group. This informal, interactive group is open to the public and meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the main dining room of the center.

The next scheduled meeting is Oct. 10. Anyone providing care to a friend or family member is invited to attend. The next meeting topic will be dementia. Other upcoming topics include the grief process, nutrition, community resources, personal finances and more.

Stanwood Friends plans homecoming
The Stanwood Friends Church homecoming weekend will begin at 6 p.m., Saturday with a picnic supper and gospel music, scheduled to continue until 9 p.m.

Other Saturday evening activities will include a silent auction to benefit youth activities. Bidding will be open Saturday evening and Sunday until after dinner.

Everyone is invited to join church members for Sunday worship services. Bring special music, special memories, family, friends, photos, fun and food. Sunday worship includes Sunday school, 10 a.m. and worship service at 10:45 a.m. A basket dinner will follow worship.

Water District No. 6
The regular monthly meeting of Rural Water District No. 6 is changing its meeting place.

Beginning Wednesday Oct. 4, the meeting will be held at the Tonganoxie Library Community room.

LAWS plans blessing of domestic animals
Community blessing of the animals, sponsored by the Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, at the First National Bank, 7th and Delaware, Leavenworth.

Each pet will be individually blessed and will receive a St. Francis medal to wear.

All types of animals and individuals of all faiths are welcome to participate in this annual event.

Wileys plan reunion
Descendants of Dexter and Candice Wiley will gather for a basket dinner at 12:30 p.m., Oct. 8, at the 4-H building at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Everyone is asked to bring their own table service. Drinks will be provided. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Hayrides planned at Hall of Fame
The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame is offering hayrides on weekends in October. Hayrides will be followed by treats of fresh cider and roasting marshmallows over an open fire.

Hayrides and a fire pit will be available to groups from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.

The cost is $4 per person, with a minimum group size of 15 people. Children 2 and under are free.

Correction
A photo taken during Grandparent’s Day at Tonganoxie Elementary School was of George Corkins. The caption had listed the name of Corkins’ brother, instead.
