Eighth-grade football team wins first game of season
Tonganoxie's eight-grade football team played its best game of the season Sept. 19 against Perry-Lecompton, beating the team 22-8.

Perry-Lecompton got on the board first, scoring a touchdown early in the first.

But Tonganoxie turned its defense on, stopping Perry-Lecompton cold for the remainder of the game.

But while the defense was holding the Kaws scoreless, the Warrior's offense was scorching.

Several players got it done on both sides of the ball.

In the game Ross Starcher scored one touchdown and grabbed two interceptions.

Tony Aragon scored two touchdowns and grabbed one interception.

Coach John Barnes said that every member of his team showed up to play hard-nosed football.

The king of the hard noses was Brad Willis, who lead the team with seven tackles.

All told, Tonganoxie posted 202 yards of offense in the game.

The win, Tonganoxie's first of the season, brings its record to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

"Our offense finally gelled," Barnes said. "And I was real happy to get our first win."

The Warriors saw action again this week, when they took on Piper at home on Tuesday.
