Services for Marjorie L. McWilliams, 76, Tonganoxie, were Monday, April 23, 2001 at Sacred Heart Church, Tonganoxie. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mrs. McWilliams died Thursday, April 19, 2001. She had resided the past eight years at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center.

She was born in Kansas City, Kan., graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1943. She worked for Southwestern Bell. Two years later, after a short stint with Rothschild’s on Minnesota Ave., Marge became one of the first PBX operators in the “new” Town House Hotel at Seventh and State.

When the hotel closed she went to work as an office secretary for Youthcraft Manufacturing Co., Kansas City, Mo. Later, returning to Kansas City, Kan. Marge operated the switchboard and did office work of Providence Hospital.

When the hospital merged with St. Margaret’s Hospital, Marge accepted a position of PBX operator for Sunshine Biscuit, in the Fairfax district, where she served faithfully for 22 years.

On May 21, 1949, she married John “Mac” McWilliams at St. Anthony’s Church, Kansas City, Kan.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Patrick McWilliams, Edwardsville, Greg McWilliams, Tonganoxie, and Jack McWilliams, Basehor; two daughters, Jill Ann Jennings and Kelley Maureen Gilbert, both of Garden City, Mo., nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one brother, Daniel Egret of Osawatomie.
