A van hit a city backhoe about 8:15 a.m. Monday and then left the scene of the accident. The backhoe was parked at the city shop, in the 300 block of Main Street. Police have a suspect.
Leavenworth County Sheriff
Two men driving a gray Chevrolet S-10 pickup took a weed eater valued at $150 from a home in the 14000 block of Huntington Lane. The theft occurred about 3:10 p.m. Saturday.
Six English style bridles, valued at $850, were stolen from a barn in the 23800 block of Springdale Road last Wednesday.
A variety of horse bridles and halters were taken from an unlocked horse trailer between 3 p.m. July 15 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the 25300 block of Springdale Road. The value of the stolen items was not available.
Jefferson County District Court
A preliminary hearing for a 52-year-old rural McLouth man charged with first-degree murder is set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 10. Ronald Decker is charged in connection with the death of Lloyd Green, 45, in October 1999. Three weeks ago, Jefferson County officials dug up what they believe to be Green's body, after receiving a tip that Green's body was buried on Decker's property, which is north of McLouth. Decker also is charged with aggravated robbery, stemming from an allegation that he stole a wallet containing $400 from Green's body.
Leavenworth County District Court
A 25-year-old Easton man had pled guilty to reckless aggravated battery, a felony, in connection with a shooting in May. Steven E. Trader will be sentenced in a hearing at 9 a.m. Aug. 10.
