Leadership class seeks participants
Enrollment is under way for the 2001-2002 Southern Leavenworth County Leadership Development class.
The class is designed to expose people who live or work in Leavenworth County to leadership opportunities. The class consists of seven sessions, most of them a half-day, that center on these topics: leadership development, communications, county government and planning, city government, business and economic development, education and the Kansas Legislature.
Classes usually are held in Basehor or Tonganoxie the third Wednesday of each month, beginning in September. In addition, students travel to Leavenworth, Lawrence and Topeka.
Anyone who lives or works in the Leavenworth County area, including high school juniors and seniors, are eligible to participate in the class.
Graduates have included city commissioners, mayors, city administrators, police officers, firefighters, homemakers, students and local business owners. The goal of the class is to prepare residents for positions of leadership in civic, educational and governmental organizations.
Applications are available at banks, libraries and city halls in Tonganoxie and Basehor, as well as at The Mirror newspaper office in Tonganoxie. The deadline for applications is Sept. 14, and classes begin Sept. 19.
