Everyone’s Irish at St. Patrick’s Day Parade
It's nearly time for the wearin' o' the green.
Plans for Tonganoxie's 14th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade are well under way.
This year's event, sponsored by the Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 10 a.m. March 17 at the swimming pool and head west down Fourth Street to Church Street.
Parade entries are welcomed, said Debbie Breuer, one of the parade organizers.
"I don't think we'll turn away anyone, even on the day of the parade," she said. "There's no entry fee."
Businesses, clubs and individuals are welcome to participate.
Groups entered include the Tonganoxie High School Marching Chieftains and a group of bagpipers.
Everyone whose birthday is on St. Patrick's Day is invited to ride on the birthday float. Anyone wanting to ride on the float should meet at 9:30 a.m. at the swimming pool.
A limited quantity of sweatshirts and T-shirts will be printed to commemorate St. Patrick's Day 2001.
Proceeds from the sale of shirts will be donated to the library, Breuer said.
At the conclusion of the parade, chapter AT of P.E.O. will host a lunch of corned-beef and cabbage or stew, as well as desserts. The lunch will run until 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church, 303 E. Fourth. Tickets are available at the door or in advance for $5 at local banks, Village Floral, Evans Real Estate or from any member of chapter AT.
For additional information or to enter the parade, call Breuer, 369-3715 or 369-0100.
