Tonganoxie minister seeking donated goods for medical missionary
A Tonganoxie minister again will travel to Mexico this spring on a medical missionary. And he needs the community's help.
In March, the Rev. Rick Lamb will travel with a medical missions team from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park to Guanajuato, Mexico. Doctors, nurses and others will work with doctors from Saltillo, Mexico, to help people with a variety of medical problems.
"It was a very meaningful trip for me, and hopefully our team was able to minister to hundreds of people in a very practical way," Lamb said about last year's journey.
As they did last year, the group hopes to take as many supplies with them as possible. So Lamb is hopeful that members of the community will help with donations.
Toothbrushes and toothpaste are in high demand.
"Last year, we handed out hundreds of these, and we ran out before the clinic ended," he said. "Many people share toothbrushes within the same family, and most are too poor to afford toothpaste."
In addition, the group could use prescription eyeglasses and even inexpensive reading glasses that can be found at discount centers. And the group needs many boxes of larger-sized rubber gloves that medical personnel can wear.
Lamb said all donations, which can be dropped off at his church, 1000 West St., must be collected by the end of February.
