On the Record: police reports in the area
JR's Retail Liquor store, 107 E. Third, was broken into between 11 p.m. Saturday and 9:25 a.m. Sunday. A window was broken to gain entry to the business. It's not clear whether anything was taken from the store. "The window was definitely shattered," Sgt. John Putthoff said Tuesday. "At this point it's not determined what was taken."
A purse was reported stolen from a storeroom at Casey's, U.S. Highway 24-40 and Kansas Highway 16 between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. A checkbook and cellular telephone were taken from the purse, which was thrown into a trash can.
Leavenworth County sheriff
A resident of the 24000 block of Loring Road reported that when she came home about 2:30 p.m. July 10 she discovered that two young men had entered her home. Nothing was missing, reports said.
A resident of the 25000 block of Chieftain Road reported that someone entered his home between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on July 9 and took money, a radio, a camcorder, speakers and electronic components, all valued at $2,100.
A vehicle driven by Tina Packard, 39, Leavenworth, struck a deer at 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday on Leavenworth County Road 8 near 251st Street. The vehicle received more than $4,500 damage.
Four people were taken to St. John's Hospital in Leavenworth following a two-vehicle collision about 4:20 p.m. Friday. A vehicle driven by Rebecca Mathia was traveling east on Eisenhower Road, about 0.6 of a mile east of Leavenworth County Road 5 when she lost control, crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by Anthony Duncan. Mathia, Duncan, along with two passengers in Duncan's vehicle Elizabeth Duncan and Megan Duncan were treated and released at St. John's.
A 20-year-old Leavenworth man parked his pickup truck on the side of Dempsey Road about 0.5 of a mile east of 207th Street about 9:30 p.m. Monday so he and a friend could fish. A sheriff's deputy on patrol discovered the truck had been broken into. The thief took $60 in cash, a compact disc player valued at $200, a tool box and tools, valued at $300, along with identification and personal checks.
A residence in the 25900 block of Stranger Road was broken into between 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Monday. Items missing included guns, money, jewelry and compact discs. No value was available.
Kansas Turnpike Authority
A three-car pileup Saturday on the Kansas Turnpike caused minor injuries for the driver and passenger of one of the vehicles, said Mike McCulley, a dispatcher with Kansas Turnpike Authority.
The accident occurred about 6 p.m. just eat of Leavenworth County Road 25 amid heavy traffic in a construction zone where crews have been resurfacing driving lanes. David Buchanan, Topeka, was driving a 1987 Dodge truck that was pulling a trailer. The truck struck a 1995 Honda, driven by Connie Sondgeroth, Topeka. The collision forced the Honda into a 1996 Ford sport utility vehicle driven by Jennifer Simons, Morgantown, W.Va.
Sondgeroth received a bump to the head and was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper. A passenger in her car, Michael Sondgeroth, Topeka, received a broken rib and was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by a Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service. Stranger Township Fire Department also responded to the accident.
