James A. Petrie

Services for James A. "Jim" Petrie, 61, McLouth, were Friday, at the McLouth United Methodist Church. Burial was in McLouth Cemetery.

Mr. Petrie died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital. He was born July 26, 1939, on the family farm in rural McLouth, the son of Daniel C. and Mildred M. Petrie. He was a lifelong resident of McLouth.

Mr. Petrie was a farmer in the McLouth area all his life. He also worked as a machine maintenance specialist at Hallmark Company in Lawrence. He retired in 1996 after 32 years of service.

He was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church. He served on the Jefferson County Farm Bureau board of directors for five years and served on the board of education of McLouth schools for 12 years.

He was a member of the Nation Antique Tractor Pullers Association. He was a 1957 graduate of McLouth High School. He married Phyllis J. Murr on June 28, 1963, at McLouth. She survives at the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Bill Petrie and Gene Petrie, both of McLouth, and Rick Petrie, Manhattan; three sisters, Lucille Smith, Topeka, Betty J. Petrie Shawnee, and Mary A. Petrie, Overland Park; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Scholarship Fund of McLouth High School or to McLouth United Methodist Church, sent in care of Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
