Saturday morning's recycling canceled

The SORT Recycling planned for this Saturday will be canceled due to Tonganoxie Days. The next SORT Recycling will be June 23 at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

Cancer group plans meeting Tuesday

The Breast Cancer Support group will meet Tuesday night at the Tonganoxie Library, 303 Bury. The meeting, which will focus on "negotiating," will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Legislator to speak at chamber meeting

A member of the Kansas Legislature will be the featured speaker at today's meeting of the Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce.

State Rep. Kenny Wilk, R-Lansing, will discuss the 2001 legislative session. In addition, Connie Torneden will provide an update on Tonganoxie Days, which is planned for this Friday and Saturday. The meeting and a picnic will begin at noon at VFW Park.

Spring swine show set for Saturday

The first annual Leavenworth County Spring Swine Show will be held Saturday at the fairgrounds in Tonganoxie. Entries will be accepted until 9 a.m. the day of the show. This event will be a jackpot show open to any 4-H or FFA member. Cash of $100 and $75 plus director chairs will be awarded to the grand and reserve grand champion, respectively. Top two showman in each division will receive plaques. Call Karol Lohman, 727-2940 (evenings), for information.

School board plans meeting tonight

The Tonganoxie school board will meet in executive session at 8:45 p.m. today at the superintendent's office to discuss hiring two instructors at Tonganoxie High School.

The two open high school positions are for a vocational counselor and a vocal music instructor.
