Obituary: Hattie David Pierson

Graveside services for Hattie David Pierson, 90, Lawrence, were Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mrs. Pierson died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Brandon Woods Retirement Center in Lawrence. She was born July 24, 1910, in Tonganoxie, the daughter of Theodore and Della (Osborne) Davis.

She graduated from Tonganoxie High School and attended nurses training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. From 1943 to 1946, she operated the family wholesale business, August J. Pierson & Son, while her husband served in the armed forces. She then returned to the home to raise her two children.

She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence. She also served on numerous PTA, Girl Scout and civic organization committees.

She married Elmer Pierson in 1934 at her home in Tonganoxie. He died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, John Pierson, Lawrence; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Paula “Polly” Pierson Benner, died in 1996.
