Book fairs scheduled at two local schools

Scholastic Book Fairs is teaming up with Tonganoxie Elementary School and Junior High School to help children become lifelong learners.

Book fairs will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 14; from noon to 8 p.m. March 15 and from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 16. The elementary school will hold its fair in the south gym, and the junior high will hold its fair in the commons area.

U.S. Army Band to perform on Sunday

The 312th United States Army Band will present a free, public concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Topeka High School Auditorium.

The 312th Army Band will be joined by select Topeka area band students.

Relay for Life is topic of upcoming meeting

Libby Corner, regional director of income development for the American Cancer Society, will speak at Monday’s meeting of the Leavenworth County Breast Cancer Support Group.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Tonganoxie Library, Third and Bury streets.

Corner will discuss the Tonganoxie Relay for Life, set for June 1, and explain the use of the funds collected.

Church sponsoring fish fry during Lent

Every Friday during Lent, except Good Friday, the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be sponsoring a fish fry.

Serving is from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Dining Hall, 703 River, Tonganoxie.

Church members will serve fried fish, baked fish, vegetables, salad or cole slaw, drink, dessert and bread.

Recycling drop-off set for Saturday

The next SORT Recycling drop-off will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

The Tonganoxie High School Science Club will donate time at this drop-off to collect recyclable items.

The next SORT drop-off will be March 24.
