Chieftain Singers to perform at meeting

The Chieftain Singers under the direction of Gordon Lankenau, vocal director, will perform at Tuesday’s meeting of the Tonganoxie Community Historical Society. The singers will share the songs they plan to perform at spring competition. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Reno church at the Historical Site.

Registration starts for golf tournament

The Tonganoxie Civic Club is sponsoring its fourth annual Golf Tournament on April 21 at Village Greens Golf Course in Ozawkie.

Tee times start at 1:30 p.m. The registration fee is $250 per team and includes green fees and cart. The four-player tournament is open to the first 36 teams to register with payment.

To register, obtain a form from Judy at First State Bank, Tonganoxie.

Recycling available on Saturday morning

The next SORT Recycling drop-off will be from 8:30 am. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie.

Members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus will work at the drop-off.

The next SORT drop-off will be April 14.

Arts center offering several classes

The Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth is offering several classes this spring.

They include: Sketching People on the Run, 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m., starting April 3; Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain, 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m., starting March 31; Portfolio Graphics for Teens, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., starting April 5; and Calligraphy I and II, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., starting April 3.

All courses will be taught at the arts center, 601 S. Fifth, Leavenworth. Call (913) 651-0765 for information.

Student Art Show kicks off next week

The Greater Leavenworth Student Art Show will be displayed at the Leavenworth Shopping Plaza starting March 29.

The show will run through April 5, and a reception to honor participating students and their art teachers will begin at 7 p.m. March 30. Works by students from Leavenworth, Fort Leavenworth and Lansing schools will be exhibited.

Heart Health Fair offered on April 7

A Heart Health Fair is set for April 7 at Providence Medical Center, 8929 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan.

The fair will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

A complete cholesterol profile costs $15, and these screenings are free: blood pressure, lung spirometer, body fat calculations, oxygen saturation, peripheral bone density screening and information on bone-thinning diseases.
