The First Christian Church of Bonner Springs will have its 15th annual Octoberfest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The event, which includes a large garage sale, silent auction and raffle will be at the church, 148 N. Nettleton. Hours for the sale are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Through the years the sale has raised more than $100,000 and the proceeds go toward providing Christmas gift certificates for needy children in the community. The church is in partnership with the Bonner Springs Wal-Mart and gives more than 200 children gifts each Christmas. Through administration from Vaughn-Trent Community Services, the sale has also provided summer recreation and school supplies and will provide dental care where needed.

The Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth is offering several classes during the next few weeks. Among the classes are:
Portfolio Graphics, a Mac lab, meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on eight Tuesdays, from Oct. 23 to Dec. 11.
Pottery I, meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 23 to Nov. 27.

Nashville singer and songwriter Lee Domann will return to Bonner Springs United Methodist Church on Sunday for two performances.
Domann’s music has been recorded by a variety of artists, including Kathy Mattea, Jake Hess, the Gold City Quartet , Lisa Daggs Charette, Karen Peck, the Bishops and Riders in the Sky. He is a regular guest on radio station WSM’s “Opry Star Spotlight.” Domann also is a United Methodist minister and former pastor in Kansas City, Kan. Since 1991, his solo ministry has combined music with storytelling.
Domann will perform at both the 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services. Bonner Springs United Methodist Church is at 425 W. Morse Ave. For information, call the church, (913) 422-5349.

In recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week, the play, “My Sister’s Sister,” will be staged in Leavenworth.
The performance will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Theater Building 152 on the Veterans Administration campus at 4101 Fourth St., Leavenworth.
Admission is free with a ticket, but seating is limited. This Ki Theatre production is sponsored by the Guidance Center, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and Clear Skies.
