Numerous charges have been filed against a 21-year-old Leavenworth man in connection with vehicle burglaries and vehicle thefts.

One count of felony auto theft is pending against Jerry R. Williams Jr.

The new charges filed this week are fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, 16 counts of vehicular burglary, four counts of felony theft, aggravated residential burglary, 10 counts of misdemeanor theft, misdemeanor criminal damage to property and two counts of misdemeanor criminal deprivation of a motor vehicle.

The maximum potential sentence, if Williams is convicted on all felony counts, is 318 months in prison, according to Roger Marrs, deputy Leavenworth County attorney.

Williams was schedule to make his first court appearance on the charges today.

Law enforcement officials say Williams was driving a stolen sport utility vehicle on Sept. 17 through Tonganoxie, when he lost control of the SUV and it rolled on its side along U.S. Highway 24-40. Williams fled the scene of the accident.

Several days later, Lansing police officers spotted Williams, allegedly driving a stolen pickup truck. They chased the truck, which ran into a tree in the 2200 block of Marion.

Williams broke an ankle in the accident, and was taken into custody and to St. John’s Hospital.

The following day, Williams walked away from the hospital. Officers, working on a tip, recaptured him several days later.
