Student from Tonganoxie in homecoming court

Jeff Clinger, Tonganoxie, who is majoring in religion at Nebraska Wesleyan University, was a member of the homecoming court at the university.

Homecoming festivities took place at the college on Oct. 13 during the school’s annual homecoming, parents and alumni weekend.

Tonganoxie police participate in program

Cecil Vinyard and Jimmie Lambert, patrolmen with the Tonganoxie Police Department, participated in a session on reducing domestic violence through community policing in Salina.

The Regional Community Policing Training Institute at Wichita State University hosted the program. The course provided students with an understanding of factors contributing to domestic violence and the skills to identify factors that impact victim safety, survival skills and options for victims and methods for offender accountability.

Military news

Army Maj. Stephen C. Goff has retired from the U.S. Army after more than 20 years of military service.

Prior to retiring, Goff was a shooter instructor assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Other assignments included tours in Korea, and Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, Colo.

During his career, he was decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal, six Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the International Distinguished Shooting Badge, the Distinguished Rifleman Badge and the Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge.

Goff’s rifle shooting accomplishments are numerous. They range from Bronze, Silver and Gold individual and team Medals, National Champion and National Champion team member, World Record setter and an inductee into the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit International Rifle Hall of Fame.

In 1976, Goff graduated from Leavenworth High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1980 from Pittsburg State University.

Joshua S. Scrimsher has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program.

Scrimsher, a 1993 graduate of Leavenworth High School, will report for basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Joyce E. Rohloff, Lost Springs, and Steve A. Scrimsher, Easton.

Army Spec. Jose J. Epperson has re-enlisted in the U.S. Army for three additional years after six years of military service.

Epperson is an administrative specialist assigned to the Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth. His wife, Carol, is the daughter of Roy Carter, Fort Leavenworth.

Air Force Airman Jeremy R. Haas has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Teresa and Joe Hass, Leavenworth, and is a 2001 graduate of the high school program at Kansas City Kansas Community College.
