Deaths/funerals: Maureen A. Mills

Celebration of life services for Maureen A. Mills, 45, Tonganoxie will be Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence.

Friends may call at the church from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and services will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and celebration will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Mills died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at her home. She was born Feb. 22, 1956, in Dallas, the daughter of Susan Gray Ward and adopted father Gene Cuvelot. She had lived in the Tonganoxie area for 14 years.

Mrs. Mills graduated from Highland Park Senior High School in St. Paul, Minn., and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at St. Mary College in Leavenworth, where she graduated with honors.

She was co-founder of SORT recycling service in Tonganoxie. She was a member of vestry and finance committee at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence, of Lawrence Area Reading Council and of the Betty Washington chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Lawrence.

Mrs. Mills was a teacher at Tonganoxie Elementary School, where she also had served as a substitute teacher. She taught Sunday school at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church and at Trinity Episcopal.

She married Edward Mills on Sept. 29, 1979, in White Bear, Minn. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include her mother, Susan Ward, White Bear Lake, Minn.; three daughters, Rebecca “Bug” Mills, Tonganoxie, Melanie Copeland, Deltona, Fla., and Angela Jamison, Overland Park; one son, Scott Mills, Dresser, Wis.; a sister, Louise Sorensen, Stillwater, Minn.; and six grandchildren.
