Leavenworth County Sheriff
Larry Griffe, 57, Leavenworth, was injured about 7 p.m. Thursday when his tractor overturned into a ditch at 16670 Dakota. Griffe was taken to Cushing Hospital and then transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., where he was listed in good condition.
Derek M. Terry, 16, Tonganoxie, was driving west on DeHoff Road, just east of 252nd Street about 4 p.m. Thursday when he swerved to avoid a fox that ran onto the road. Terry's car went into the north ditch and overturned. Neither Terry nor his passenger, Tyler Robinson, 16, Tonganoxie, was injured.
A vehicle driven west on U.S. Highway 24-40 by Conny Young, 52, Tonganoxie, collided with a vehicle driven by Bob Hite, 74, Bonner Springs, as Hite tried to cross the highway at 158th Street. Hite told sheriff's officers he did not see Young's vehicle before the accident, which occurred about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday.
A vehicle driven by Deborah J. Loker, 47, Lawrence was traveling west on Kansas Highway 32, west of Leavenworth County Road 1, when three to four deer ran across the road. Loker struck one of the deer, causing $2,500 in damage to her vehicle. The accident occurred about 6 p.m. Friday.
Jon L. Stone, 61, Shawnee, was driving his motorcycle west on Kansas Highway 32 when a truck in front of him began to slow to turn onto 222nd Street. Stone tried to slow, but locked the front brakes of his motorcycle, which when onto its left side and slid. The accident occurred about 8:20 a.m. Friday.
Stacie M. Smith, 27, Kansas City, Kan., was driving east on U.S. Highway 24-40, east of 166th Street, when her vehicle hydroplaned on the wet highway. The vehicle went into the median, coming to rest in a rocky creek bed. Smith was not injured in the accident, which occurred about 1:15 p.m. Monday.
