Spaces still available in golf tournament

The 2002 Project Graduation committee still has openings for golf teams for the golf tournament on Oct. 20.

The committee is organizing an after-graduation party for members of the Tonganoxie High School Class of 2002. The golf tournament is one of several fund-raising events planned during the school year.

Arts center plans events next month

Several special events are planned in October at the Carnegie Arts Center in Leavenworth.

Among the events are:

A benefit concert for the arts center will include several four-handed piano duets by Heather Marsh Blades, along with Roy Steebe and Heinzel Kunsmann. The concert will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 14. No tickets or reservations are required. All donations will benefit the arts center. Refreshments will follow the performance.

A display of the work of Mary Ellen Maxwell, retired co-founded of the arts center, will open with a reception at 7 p.m. Oct. 5. The reception is free and open to the public. The mixed media works will be on display from Oct. 5 through Oct. 26.

A gargoyle workshop for children ages 6 through 12 will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 8, and children ages 4 through 6 can participate in a literature/art project called “Everyone has a Story to Tell,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 13.

The arts center also is offering several classes, including:

Homeschool Drawing, ages 9 through 12, which meets from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2-23.

Drawing Workshop, ages 10 and up, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6.

Lithography for adults, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2-30.

Black and White Photography, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 4 through Nov. 29.

Digital Tools for the Artist, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 2 through Nov. 20.

Reunion planned

A reunion of all descendents of the Schwinn family will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday in the administration building at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie.

A potluck dinner will begin at 1 p.m. Beverages will be provided; participants are asked to bring food and table service. Prizes and announcements will be at 2:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring photographs, genealogical material and scrapbooks.
