Obituary/Frances C. Pilgrim

Services for Frances Colleen Pilgrim, 79, Oskaloosa, were Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002 at the Hesper Friends Church in Eudora with Rev. Cloyce Thornton officiating. Burial was in the Hesper Friends Cemetery.

Ms. Pilgrim died last Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka. She was born Dec. 17, 1922, at Cedar Dale, Kan., the daughter of King and Hazel Oller Smith. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., for many years until she moved to Oskaloosa in 1991.

Ms. Pilgrim was a cook for the Hyatt-Regency Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. She retired in 1991 after more than 20 years of service. She formerly worked as a cook for the University of Kansas in Lawrence for several years.

She was a member of the Hesper Friends Church, a member of the Oskaloosa Senior Citizens and a member of Rebekah Lodge in Eudora.

Survivors include three sons, Wesley Hale, Lawrence, Kan., Nathan Hale, Ontario, Ore., and Harold Hale, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Rebecca Kaye Bryant and Joyce Bledsoe, both of Oskaloosa, and Jeannette Ray, Lawrence; one brother, Kirby Freeman, Chicago; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Hale.
