Obituary: Mary E. Gast

1906-2002

Services for Mary E. Gast, Leavenworth, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at the St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lansing.

Mary E. Gast, 95, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the St. John Hospital, Leavenworth. She was born Nov. 24, 1906, in Gentry County, Missouri, the daughter of Adam and Josephine (Rubeck) Kimmet.

On June 5, 1928, she married Francis J. Gast Sr., in Conception, Mo. He died Aug. 29, 1984.

Mrs. Gast was a member of the St. Casimir Catholic Church of Leavenworth. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include eight sons, Francis Gast Jr. and Alfred Gast, both of Leavenworth, Harry Gast, Basehor, Stephen Gast, Easton, Bernard Gast, Burlington Junction, Mo., Herman Gast, Mission, Texas, Vincent Gast, Valley Falls, and Louis Gast, Linwood; six daughters, Christina Thompson and Clara Darrow, both of Leavenworth, Henrietta Bradley, Tonganoxie, Cecelia Wilmes, Maryville, Mo., Freda Meier, Lincoln, Neb., and Lucy White, Temple, Texas; five brothers, George Kimmet and Leo Kimmet, both of Billings, Mont., E. Joseph Kimmet, Spokane, Wash., Charles Kimmet, Sunburst, Mont., and Andrew Kimmet, Great Falls, Mont.; two sisters, Josephine O'Loughlin, Fairfield, Mont., and Anna Moran, Helena Mont.; 70 grandchildren; 159 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Mercier, and six grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, the American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice, sent in care of Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, 707 S. Sixth, Leavenworth, 66048. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
