Services for Mary E. Coffman, Topeka, were Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. Burial was in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.
Mary E. Coffman, 90, died Jan. 22, 2002, at Topeka Health Care Center, Topeka.
She was a longtime resident of Lawrence and had spent the past six years with her daughter in Topeka.
Mrs. Coffman was born Oct. 29, 1911, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Ida Jane Daniels and Oliver Garner.
She lived on a farm in Jefferson County with her family and graduated in 1932 from Oskaloosa High School.
She moved to Lawrence, where she worked at Stokely Van Camp and was a nurse's aide at Metsker Care Home. She also worked at Bill's Cafnd at Woolworth's, both in Lawrence.
On June 7, 1933, she married Charles F. Coffman in Lawrence. He died Jan. 20, 1957. The couple had several farms in Leavenworth. Mrs. Coffman lived for 20 years at Babcock Place in Lawrence, before moving about six years ago to the Topeka home of her daughter, Patty.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Findley, Lawrence, Pattie Collie, Topeka, and Carolyn Kraus, Tonganoxie; three sisters, Alberta Snow and Elvia Ousdahl, both of Lawrence, and Ruby Coffman, Tonganoxie; a brother, Raymond Garner, Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Heart of America Hospice, American Diabetes Association, Oakland Community Nursing Center or the Topeka Health Care Center.
