Tonganoxie police

A home in the 300 block of Rogers Road was burglarized Sunday morning, but nothing was reported missing. Entry was gained through a side door.

Tonganoxie City Fire Department

Firefighters responded:

At 6:36 p.m. last Wednesday to the 300 block of Ridge Street for a possible natural gas leak. No leak was found although an overheated battery in a vehicle was found to be the source of the odor.

At 9:53 p.m. Sunday to Industrial Drive in the Urban Hess industrial park for a small grass fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire without incident. Fireworks were thought to be the cause.

At 3:10 p.m. Monday to the 700 block of Pleasant to assist Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service with a medical emergency.

Leavenworth County Sheriff

Justin A. Durkes, 17, McLouth, was driving south on Kansas Highway 16 when he lost control of his vehicle on some slush and crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a guardrail at 9:10 a.m. Jan. 19. No injuries were reported.

Gail Price, 58, Atchison, was driving south on U.S. Highway 73, south of the Atchison County line, about 2:40 p.m. Jan. 19 when her vehicle crossed the center line, striking a vehicle driven by Alice M. Amren-Underwood, 40, Olathe. Connie S. Troyer, Overland Park, swerved to avoid Price vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Deanna R. Hobbs-Heucntz, 30, Oskaloosa, was driving east on County Road 5, 0.5 of a mile east of County Road 29, about 5:15 p.m. Jan. 19 when she lost control of her vehicle and it hit a bridge rail. No injuries were reported.

A vehicle driven west on Kansas Avenue west of County Road 2 by James E. Shannon, 25, Tonganoxie, slid and struck an embankment on the north side of the road. The vehicle turned over onto the driver's side. The accident occurred at 11:10 p.m. Jan. 18. No injuries were reported.

Marian B. Shubert, 76, Bonner Springs, was driving west on Kansas Highway 32 near 153rd St. at 8:45 p.m. Jan. 18 when the vehicle slid on the snow-covered road and slid off the road and struck a telephone box and a fence. No injuries were reported.

Christopher J. Kellogg, 26, Salina, was driving west on Kansas Highway 92 just east of 227th Street about 6:20 p.m. when his vehicle struck a deer. Kellogg was not injured.

Leavenworth County District Court

A Basehor man was convicted of six drug-related charges last Friday and will be sentenced on March 6. Wade Bates, who is in custody in the Leavenworth County Jail, also is awaiting trial in a second drug case. On Friday, a jury returned a guilty verdict on charges of manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and having no drug tax stamp, according to prosecutor David Melton of the Leavenworth County attorney's office. In the other case, which is set for jury trial on Feb. 12, Bates is charged with manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of ephedrine as a precursor, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
