Deaths: Emma Elinor Oelschlaeger, 94, Shawnee, died July 16, 1992; A. Davis-Bey, 90, Bonner Springs, died July 18, 1992; Kenneth C. Yates, 83, Tonganoxie, died July 19, 1992.
Springdale: The new home of Peggy and Ed Gillaspie is now on the site and will be completed this week.
Jarbalo Jottings: Dorothy Ehart attended the funeral of her cousin, Frank Ehart, on Monday.
George and Ruth Cooper attended the 19th annual reunion of members of the 442nd Military Airlift Wing Saturday at Richards Gebaur Air Base.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mills of Overland Park, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary July 19, 1992.
Birth: James and Marni Ditty of Wainwright, Alaska, announce the birth of a daughter, Kaitelyn Cobain on July 16, 1992.
25 years ago: July 20, 1977
LeeAnne Mark, daughter of Mayor and Mrs. Lee Mark, arrived home Monday from the Kansas 4-H trip to Washington, D.C. LeeAnne, a member of the local Happy Helpers 4-H Club, applied and was accepted earlier this year for the Citizenship Short Course given to the 4-H members. She was the representative from the Leavenworth County 4-H clubs.
Death: Mrs. Martha A. Brown, 38, Bonner Springs, sister of William A. Theno and Mrs. Harlan (Agnes) was killed in a place crash near Bunker, Mo., Friday night. Three others were also killed in the crash, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Papineau, Bonner Springs, and Gary 0. Tucker, Stillwell, coach and athletic director of the Blue Valley High School.
Jarbalo Jottings: Gregg Gossett caught a 16-pound channel catfish in a local farm pond Friday evening. He was one proud boy!
McLouth News: Mrs. Maude Black received word Thursday of the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Forest (Eleanor) Trackwell in Seattle, Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wiley will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary on July 19, 1977.

50 years ago: July 31, 1952
Births: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meints announce the birth of a son, Robert Walter, on July 25, 1952; Mr. and Mrs. Don Rasmussen of Yates Center, announce the birth of a boy, Jack Donald, July 28, 1952; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Semon of Kansas City, Kan., announce the birth of twin boys July 26, 1952. They have been given the names John Clayton and Frederick.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse A. Hall of Leavenworth will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house Aug. 3 at their home at 403 Olive St. The reception hours are from 3 to 5 o’clock in the afternoon and from 7 to 9 o’clock in the evening.
Mrs. Isabelle Constant, 94, widow of Charles Henry Constant, early-day lumber dealer of Lawrence, died Monday afternoon at her home. (At age 15 Mrs. Constant had taught a subscription school, where the pupils paid $1 a month to attend. She was notified that she had been given the position by a flash from a mirror. The young teacher walked 2 1/2 miles each way to her school.)
The Weekly News Reel: The biggest chiggers on earth seem to inhabit Strawberry Hill. They ride downtown on Ye Ed’s spindle shanks and get knocked off into the downtown area where they attack passersby and show the little chiggers how it is done.
75 years ago: July 14, 1927
Evelyn Estes, feature story writer for the Scrimitar Press at Memphis, Tenn., stopped in Tonganoxie Tuesday, enroute to San Francisco, taking the northern route which is 4,000 miles. She is making the trip on horseback and has no limited time. (The average mileage per hour she made was four miles. Every evening she wrote a story of her adventures and mailed it to the paper at Memphis.)
W.H. Zimmerman, Tonganoxie, celebrated his 78th birthday at his home Friday.
County Clerk Joe Voorhees was observed Sunday in the crowd at the Myers house and swimming pool. Joe is distinguished by his penmanship and ready smile, and each trait is in a class all its own.
Little Billie Hunt, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hunt, has been very ill the past few days with summer flu.
Pony Creek: Walter McRill was relieved of a spare tire from his car while it was parked on the street.
Mound: Ed Shrimplin and his brother, John, started threshing in this neighborhood Thursday.
Elmwood: Thelma, Arthur and Lula Lange of Kansas City are visiting their aunt Mrs. Harry Kissinger this week.
Pleasant Prairie: The farmers are all busy getting their hay up and corn laid by to be ready for threshing the last of the week. Mr. Cole’s machine will do the threshing in this neighborhood.
100 years ago: July 24, 1902
Death: Mrs. Mina Mark died of consumption shortly after midnight Monday night, at her home just northwest of town, in the house in which she was born. Elmina White, wife of Fred A. Mark, was born Dec. 25, 1873. She never knew the love and care of a mother as her mother died when she was only six months old.
Died, at her home in Tonganoxie, Sunday, July 20, of senile gangrene, Hannah K. West, aged 77 years. She was the daughter of William and Eliza Hosier. Hannah Hosier was married to Samuel West in 1840. Her body was laid to rest in the Tonganoxie Cemetery west of town.
Regulating Speed of Automobiles: The new law in New York for the regulating of automobiles permits a speed of eight miles in cities and villages and twenty miles in the country.
Mt. Olivet: Sam Harvey, an old soldier, died here this week, and was buried at the Soldiers’ Home cemetery. Hemorrhage was the cause of his death.
Louis Cronemeyer will leave for Oklahoma next week, to see if he cannot pick up a cheap claim.
E.G. Truskey, one of the Basehor merchants, made a short visit to Tonganoxie Monday.
Another traveling showman was in town this week, and after exhibiting passed around the hat.
