Obituary: Lawrence P. “Jiggs” Marquis

Services for Lawrence P. "Jiggs" Marquis, 82, Kansas City, Kan., were Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Porter Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan. Burial was in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Marquis died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Providence Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Wyandotte County, where he lived his entire life.

He was a graduate of Washington High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was employed for 28 years at A&P Grocery, where he retired in 1975 as produce manager. After his retirement, he worked for nine years as a school custodian and at the Woodlands. He also played, umpired and managed a little league baseball team.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Charlene M. Marquis, of the home; a son, Dennis W. Marquis, Leavenworth; three daughters, Janice K. Seymour, Tonganoxie, Carla J. Tinsley, Cleveland, Mo., and Vickie A. Lowe, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Clara Beck, Jericho Springs, Mo., and Mary Ann Ward, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Parkinson's Association of Greater Kansas City, 7808 Foster, Shawnee Mission, 66024.
