Auction site slated for cleanup
The owner of land, where an auction was held in December, has told county officials the property will be cleaned up in a few weeks.
David Van Parys, Leavenworth County counselor, threatened in February to take legal action against David P. Vassar, who owns the tract at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-40 and Leavenworth County Road 1. The site, adjacent to Paradise Mobile Home Park, was used for an auction in December.
However, a variety of items remain on the property, which Van Parys said violates county regulations.
Van Parys said Vassar apparently had leased the property to another person, who held the auction and left the items. Vassar has told county officials that he will regain control of the property at the end of March and that he will rid the property of the items.
"He appears to be cooperating," Van Parys said.
