Basehor to vote on excise tax

By Shawn Linenberger - | Mar 13, 2002

Basehor residents will decide on April 2 whether the city will impose an excise tax on development.

Residents will vote on the tax, which the city council earlier approved. Opponents to the tax filed a protest petition, forcing the matter to a public vote.

The tax, which was set at nine cents per square foot, would apply to new developments and remodeling projects with more than 51 percent improvements of assessed values. Funds raised by the tax would be earmarked for transportation improvements in the city.

Informational meetings about the tax are planned for 7 p.m. on March 21 and March 25 in Basehor City Hall.
