Foster takes opening at Allen County

By Shawn Linenberger - | May 8, 2002

Leslie Foster could be coaching against one of her alma maters next season.

The former Tonganoxie coach will be an assistant at Allen County Community College in Iola. Foster played at Hutchinson Community College before earning her education degree at Emporia State. She accepted an assistant coaching position with the Red Devils last Thursday.

Allen County is in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference’s east division, while HCC is in the west division.

ACCC was the only college in Kansas where Foster applied.

“I just knew juco would be a good place to get my feet wet and figure out what the business is all about,” Foster said. “I’ve gotten good information about the head coach.”

Foster joins Jason Kegler, who will enter his third year in Iola. He spent two years at Pratt Community College as an assistant. He graduated from St. Mary College in Leavenworth in 1996 after posting a career on the Spire basketball team.

Kegler also has worked with Foster at University of Kansas basketball camps.

The coaches appear to have a daunting task ahead of them.

The Red Devils went 3-27 overall last season, including a 2-16 record in the KJCCC.

In two years as the Chieftains’ head coach, Foster went 17-27. She was within one game of reaching the 4A State Tournament in 2000-01.
