A Tonganoxie man is in fair condition after he was injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night just north of Lawrence.

An official with Lawrence Memorial Hospital said Tuesday that Eric J. Anton, 20, Tonganoxie was in fair condition.

Anton and a passenger, Kimberly S. Leffert, 18, Leavenworth, were driving east on U.S. Highway 24-40 about 6:20 p.m. when a vehicle failed to yield from the south from the KOA Kampground entrance, which is also Douglas County Road 1473.

Samuel K. Crowley, 18, Topeka, was driving a 1987 Nissan when he failed to yield to Anton, who was in a 1991 Ford Mustang. Anton’s Mustang hit the Nissan on the driver’s side door.

Leffert and Crowley were flown by air ambulance to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., where Leffert was listed in good condition on Tuesday. Crowley was released from the medical center on Sunday.

A passenger in Crowley’s vehicle, Billie J. Fuqua, 21, Ottawa, was listed in fair condition Tuesday at LMH.

No one in the accident was wearing a seat belt.

A portion of U.S. Highway 24-40 was blocked off by Douglas County Sheriff’s officers and Lawrence Police for more than hour. The Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
